After Metro Line 2 connecting Ben Thanh and Tham Luong broke ground on 15 January, several more HCMC metro lines are scheduled to start construction in 2026 — all targeted for completion by 2030.
Late 2025 to early 2026 is widely seen as the inflection point at which HCMC's transit infrastructure shifts into a higher gear. Several core urban-rail projects are entering construction in parallel.
The Ben Thanh–Can Gio high-speed line and Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh–Tham Luong) successively break ground — opening what will be the strongest growth chapter in HCMC's metro network history.
According to HCMC's Department of Construction, the city is also considering assigning Thaco Group (Truong Hai) to lead a PPP-mode investment study for the Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem and Thu Thiem–Long Thanh segments of Metro Line 2.
Per the plan, the Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem segment breaks ground around 30 April 2026, with Thu Thiem–Long Thanh pushed forward in mid-2026 — full operation across the line is targeted for 2030. The line is expected to function as the strategic transit spine linking Tan Son Nhat Airport with Long Thanh International Airport.

In parallel, HCMC's Urban Railway Management Authority is preparing investment work on several new metro lines: the Binh Duong New City–Suoi Tien line, the Thu Dau Mot–HCMC line, and Phase 1 of Metro Line 6 (Tan Son Nhat–Phu Huu). All three are targeted to break ground in 2026 and complete in 2030 — phasing in an integrated metro network that links HCMC with satellite cities, eases road congestion and reshapes urban transit across the South.
Per HCMC's Urban Railway Management Authority, the city is now rapidly preparing investment procedures for the two metro lines connecting the Binh Duong area (formerly Binh Duong Province) — lines that will serve as the core transit axis linking the urban centre with the northern satellite cities.
Among them, Metro Line 1 (Binh Duong New City–Suoi Tien) runs 31.6 km, entirely elevated, with 17 stations. It shares the Long Binh depot with the existing Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien); total investment is roughly 46,725 billion VND. The line forms a high-capacity transit axis directly connecting Binh Duong with HCMC's centre.
Metro Line 2 (Thu Dau Mot–HCMC) runs 23.3 km, also elevated, with around 13 stations planned. It shares the depot with Metro Line 3 in the Hiep Binh Phuoc area; total investment runs to about 53,000 billion VND. The line connects Thu Dau Mot with central HCMC, eases congestion on National Highway 13, and forms a city-centre transit axis linked with Metro Line 3.
Meanwhile, Phase 1 of Metro Line 6 (Tan Son Nhat–Phu Huu) has also entered preparation. The line will play a role linking HCMC's north and east, easing congestion near the airport and in the eastern districts, while serving as the critical infrastructure that drives future satellite-city growth.
